4D Open, 4D's API, enables the communication with 4D Server. Its functions can be grouped in four different themes.

• Access management: password and group management.
• Structure access: retrieval of structure data such as field or table names, attributes and properties.
• Access to selections: creating selections through searches, navigation within a selection and so on
• Data access: record creation, deletion, and modification in a multi-user context.

In this first technical note, we will address the access to a structure of a database opened with 4D Server. Accessing the data will be addressed in a future technical note.
