Tech Tip: Do I need to install plug-ins on client machines?
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 6.5 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: June 22, 2001

Plug-ins do not need to be installed on client machines. By default, when 4D Client connects to a 4D Server, it downloads all the required plug-ins from the server. This assumes that the server has the correct plug-ins available with respect to the client. For example, if the client machine is running under Windows, the server must have Windows plug-ins installed. On the other hand, if the client machine is running on the Mac, the server must have Mac plug-ins installed.

On the server, the plug-ins must be in the correct folder.

Mac plug-ins must be in a folder named Mac4DX
Windows plug-ins must in a folder called Win4DX

Also, these two folders Mac4DX and Win4DX must be in the same folder as the structure of the database.

For more information see the 4D Installation Guide on the Product Line CD.
