Tech Tip: You can connect 4D Client to 4D Server with encrypted connections
PRODUCT: 4D Server | VERSION: 6.7 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: July 13, 2001

This can also be done via Internet by using the TCP protocol.

To be sure that the connection works:

Be sure that the 4DSLI.DLL is installed on both machines, with 4D Server and 4D Client.
The Encrypted connection must be checked from the database properties on 4D Server.
From 4D Client, extend the TCP dialog in order to create a new entry for this connection.
Type a name for this connection. Be sure that this name will start by the asterisk character '*', i.e. "*My4DServer".
The * character is mandatory. If you do not provide the *, your connection will fail.
Provide the IP address for this name and save this new entry.
To connect to this 4D Server, just select this item and click on the OK button.

These encrypted connections do not require generated keys to work. The check box is only required to be checked and the "*" character is required in the static name of the database.
