Tech Tip: How to customize the 4D Server Broadcasting system
PRODUCT: 4D Server | VERSION: 6.5 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: July 27, 2001

It is possible to customize the 4D server broadcasting system so that the names of the server databases are not automatically published over the network. In this case, the names do not appear in the TCP/IP, IPX/SPX dialog box on the client side.

Using 4D Customizer Plus, select and open the appropriate corresponding network component file

TCP/IP-------> TCP.OPT
IPX/SPX-----> IPX.OPT
AppleTalk---> ADSP.OPT

These files is found in the following directory:

Under Windows---> c:\windows\4D\
Under Mac----------> Macintosh HD: System Folder: Preferences: 4D:

After opening the file, click preferences.

Click "Published Access" and select manual Access.

Note: If you know the IP address of the server database whose name is not broadcasted, it is still possible to manually enter its IP address and then click OK to connect to the database.
