Tech Tip: Internet Commands: SMTP relay when a prior login is required
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 6.5 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: November 16, 2001

In order to prevent spam, most SMTP servers give the possibility of requiring a login prior to enabling the relay. However, you may wonder how to perform the login if you are sending e-mails from a 4D Database using 4D Internet Commands. Most SMTP servers will consider a POP3 login as a valid SMTP authentication and enable the SMTP relay. You can perform a login using the commands POP3 Login and POP3 Logout of the 4D Internet Commands plug-in. Since this behavior is not part of the POP3 or the SMTP standard, it has to be tested with the specific SMTP server you use.
