Tech Tip: Are 4D Draw documents cross-platform?
PRODUCT: 4D Draw | VERSION: | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: April 18, 2002

Compatibility: 6.5.x and 6.7.x

Yes. 4D Draw documents are cross-platform with minor modifications.

Mac to Windows
Under Windows, 4D Draw uses its file name extension (.4DW) to recognize its own documents. Because of this, in order to open a 4D Draw document under Windows that was created under MacOS, you simply need to resave the 4D Draw document with its file name extension (.4DW).

Windows to Mac
On the other hand, a 4D Draw document created under Windows cannot be copied directly to the Mac. On Mac OS, 4D Draw uses the creator type (4DRW) to recognize its own documents. Because 4D Draw documents created under Windows do not have the appropriate recognizable “signature,” you must use 4D Transporter (supplied with 4th Dimension and 4D Server) to assign the correct signature.
