Users for the 4D Business Kit server and users for remote administration of a store hosted by 4D Business Kit are considered two different entities. For this tech tip, I will focus on the management of users for the server.
To create a user for the management of the 4DBK server, it may be a good idea to create user groups first. By creating user groups, you can assign distinct privileges for each group. In turn, you may assign new users you create to a certain user group, based on what functionality you want that user to have. You may restrict a particular user group, say "temp" to only have privileges such as printing and accessing data only. Then assign a user or users to that group.
To create a new user group, select User group from the File menu.
A new window will pop up displaying the current user groups registered on the system. Click on the "+" icon in the palette to create a new user group, and assign the privileges for that group.
Once you have created the user group, select Users from the File menu to create individual users for your server.
To create a new user, again click on the "+" button on the palette and set the attributes for that user. You have to assign a group to this user, and you also have the option of restricting this particular user to a store.
