Writing to disk of data (index pages, records and deletion markers) kept in the database cache has been optimized in 4th Dimension 2003 and database performance has been noticeably improved. The gain in performance is particularly noticeable:
- under MacOS,
- if the disk is fragmented,
- if the quantity of data to be written to disk is considerable.

The new algorithm is activated by default in 4 th Dimension 2003. You can, nevertheless, deactivate it by programming using the SET DATABASE PARAMETER ({table; }selector; value) command. The value for the selector is 26 and the values are 0 or 1 (0 = new mode disabled, 1 = new mode enabled).
