In technical note 02-54, Christian Cypert exposed an overview of the LDAP technology. As a reminder, LDAP stands for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol. It is a Directory service based on the x500 standard. Technically, the data is organized as a tree (Directory Information Tree) as opposed to a relational database for instance. This hierarchical structure is accessed with a Distinguished Name (DN).
