Tech Tip: Access Control in Contextual Mode
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 2003.3 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: May 20, 2004

When operating your 4D Web server in contextual mode, you can use 4D’s database password system to authenticate users who access your Web site. This is useful if you only want users who are listed in your user list to be able to connect to your site. Here are the steps to prompt the users to enter their user name and password every time they access your site:

1. Go to your Preferences setting and select Web Server Publishing.
2. In the Web Passwords Area, choose "Use Passwords" and "Include 4D passwords."
3. Restart your 4D Web server.

Note: If the On Web Authentication database method exists, it is up to you to allow or deny the access in order to request the browser to display the HTTP authentication dialog.
