Starting with version 2003, 4D compiler was integrated into the standalone version of 4D. Neither 4D Server nor 4D Client can compile a database. However, when you purchase a developer edition of 4D Server, you also get a license for running the standalone version of 4D. The purpose of that license is to allow you to use a standalone version of 4D for compilation. Its use should be limited to compilation only.
