Tech Tip: What is the difference between 4D ODBC Plug-In and the ODBC Driver?
PRODUCT: ODBC for 4D Server | VERSION: 2004 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: September 2, 2004

The ODBC Driver for 4D Server allows client applications (such as word processors, spreadsheets, report generators, etc.) to send ODBC calls and SQL queries to 4D Server. The 4D ODBC Driver can only be installed on a Windows machine where the client resides. To learn more about the 4D ODBC Driver, see 4D ODBC Driver for 4D Server.

The 4D ODBC Connectivity plug-ins allow 4D to communicate with any data source accessible by an ODBC driver. With previous version of 4D, the 4D ODBC plug-in runs only on Macintosh OS 9.2.1 and requires CarbonLib 1.4 or above or under Windows. With the current 2004 4D ODBC plug-in for 4D 2004, the plug-in can be executed under Windows or Mac OSX. To find more information about the 4D ODBC plug-in, see 4D ODBC.
