Tech Tip: Where is the IP address of the built server application stored?
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 2004.1 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: April 7, 2005

When you build a client-server application using 4D 2004, a user can simply double-click the client application to connect to the server application directly. But where is the IP address of the server stored? The new application builder for 4D 2004 allows you to create customizable client/server applications. You can simply double-click on the server to launch the server portion without selecting the structure file and double-click on the client portion which automatically connects to the server. When the client is first launched and when a connection to the server is established, an XML file called EnginedServer is created in the 4d Extensions of the Client application folder. This file contains the IP Address of the server and is modifiable by opening the file with a text editor. If a connection cannot be established to the server, the standard connection dialog box comes up.
