Tech Tip: Preventing Users from changing their password
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 2004.1 | PLATFORM: Mac OS X
Published On: June 27, 2005

A new feature in 4D 2004 allows you to hide the change button in the user identification window. Hiding this button prevents users from changing their password. This will allow more control for the administrator, preventing unnecessary password changes to occur or hackers entering new passwords to access the database. To hide the change button simply navigate to the database preferences and select Access from the application section. The window should have a check box labeled "The user can change their password." If this box is not checked then the change button will not appear in the user identification window. With this setting disabled, the passwords cannot be changed at the user level.
