Tech Tip: Using splitters in the preview pane for Methods
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 2004.1 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: July 1, 2005

In version 2004 of 4D you can use splitters in the preview pane for Methods of the Explorer window.

In the explorer window, simply click on the methods icon. Expand the explorer window to show the preview pane by clicking on the blue arrow button on the bottom right. Choose a method and the preview pane will display the code for the method.

In addition, you can now split this preview pane into many different sections with the use of splitters.

Simply click on the splitter located on top of the scroll bar button and drag it down. After the drag down and click, a new independent window will display below the initial preview. This new window is independent and does not interfere with the other window when scrolling.

To create another splitter, repeat the above procedure. This feature is very helpful when a developer would like to preview a long method. The developer is able to split the code in chunks and simultaneously analyze the chunks at once, rather than scrolling up and down 100's of lines of code.

Also, if you would like to remove the splitters, you can simply double click on the dividing line (line divides independent windows) and the splitter will disappear. Repeat the process for each splitter you would like to remove.
