When opening a database, 4D allows you to choose which environment is opened at the startup.

To change the startup environment:
1. Go to the design anvironment
2. From the edit Menu, select Preferences.
   The Preferences dialog is displayed.
3. Select the Application panel.
4. Select the Startup mode from the Startup environment drop-down list.
5. Click OK.

The nest time the database is launched it will open in the mode you selected.

Note: By default 4th Dimension opens the database in the Design environment if there is not a password restricting its access.
