The standard location of Preferences files for 4D applications (4th Dimension, 4D Server, 4D Client, 4D Runtime, etc.) has been modified in version 2004.2. In previous versions of 4D, these files were stored in the "All Users" folders of the user configuration folders (Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ under Windows and Library:Application Support under MacOS). Exception: with 4D Client under Windows, these files were stored in Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\. In 4th Dimension 2004.2, the locations of Preferences files were standardized. By default, they are now as follows: Windows (All applications except for 4D Client) Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\4D -> If the All Users folder is locked, Preferences files are located at: Documents and Settings\User-Name\Application Data\4D Windows 4D Client Preferences files are located at: Documents and Settings\User-Name\Application Data\4D MacOS (All applications except for 4D Client) (All Users) Library:Application Support:4D -> If the All Users Folder is locked, Preferences files are located at: (Current user folder) Library:Application Support:4D MacOS 4D Client (Current user folder) Library:Application Support:4D This new behavior simplifies the use of multi-session systems and, more particularly, enables the use of 4D applications on systems where "All Users" type folders are locked.
