Tech Tip: How to install the 4th Dimension Mac OS Help files into 4D Client 2004
PRODUCT: 4D Client | VERSION: 2004.3 | PLATFORM: Mac
Published On: February 3, 2006

You may have noticed that 4D Client 2004 does not install any help files on Mac OS X. This is because there is no "4D Client Mac OS Help" file; it does not exist.

However, it is possible to install the 4th Dimension Mac OS Help files into 4D Client. Keep in mind you will see 4th Dimension Help from 4D Client and not 4D Client Help (which does not exist).

You can download the 4th Dimension Mac OS Help files from:

https://www.4d.com/support/documentation.html

PLEASE NOTE: This workaround is provided "as is." Be sure to backup any files that may be modified by performing these steps.

To install the 4th Dimension Help files into 4D Client:

-Download "4th_Dimension_2004.3_Help.sit" (note the version may differ)
-Extract "4th_Dimension_2004.3_Help.sit"
-This will create a folder called "4th Dimension Help", which contains the Help files
-Copy the "4th Dimension Help" folder into the 4D Client package at:

  4D Client.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj

-Edit the file "InfoPlist.strings" in the 4D Client package at:

  4D Client.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/InfoPlist.strings

Note that the default editor is Project Builder but you may edit this file with a text editor as well.

-Change the value of "CFBundleHelpBookFolder" from "Help 4D Client" to "4th Dimension Help"
-Change the value of "CFBundleHelpBookName" from "Help 4D Client" to "4D Help"
-Save the "InfoPlist.strings" file

That should be it, you should now be able to access 4th Dimension Help from 4D Client via Help | 4D Client Help.
