Tech Tip: Basic Client/Server troubleshooting rules
PRODUCT: 4D Server | VERSION: 2004 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: February 3, 2006

When dealing with a client/server system and problems occur, you may sometimes wonder if it originates from the server or the client. In most cases, the following rules apply:
- if all the clients are affected, the server is most likely the cause
- if only one client is affected, that client configuration is to be investigated (preferences, OS etc.).
- if only few clients are affected, there is usually a common denominator between them (platform, OS, subnet etc.)

Of course, those rules are indicative as there are always exceptions, but they should get you started when having to address a client/server issue.
