Tech Tip: Unable to select log file on Mac OS
PRODUCT: 4D Backup | VERSION: 2004 | PLATFORM: Mac OS X
Published On: May 12, 2006

You may run into situations where the file chooser dialog does not allow you to select your log file when trying to integrate a log file with a backup, or trying to point 4D to the current log file. You may be able to see the log file in the file list, but are unable to select it because it is "grayed out". Why does this happen?

Most often this is caused by the loss of "type" or "creator" information in the log file. You can use a program like "FileInfo" to edit these file attributes:

If you are not sure which values to change, or what the normal values are, you can check the default values from a new/blank database, e.g.: create a new database; setup Backup and create a logfile; then check the TYPE/CREATOR of this new log file.
