Tech Tip: LAUNCH EXTERNAL PROCESS failing on Mac OS X?
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 2004 | PLATFORM: Mac OS X
Published On: May 5, 2006

If you use LAUNCH EXTERNAL PROCESS on Mac OS X and it is not launching the application, here are the two most common reasons:
- you need to point directly to the executable within the application's package (i.e. ...TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/...)
- If there are spaces in the path to the executable, you need to replace each space by "\ " (backslash + space) path to the application. Once entered in the method editor, "\ " will become "\\ ", which is to be expected because of the escape sequences in the method editor.
