Tech Tip: Using 4D commands in the Formula Editor with 4D 2004.4
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 2004.4 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: May 26, 2006

4th Dimension 2004.4 includes a new database preference that allows the Designer and Administrator full access to 4D commands and project methods from within the Formula Editor. Note that access will still be restricted to the list of allowed methods for other users. The advantage of this selective access is that it gives the Designer and Administrator full access to the commands and methods while still providing control of the operations carried out by other users.

To enable access:

  1. Open the database Preferences.

  2. Select the Application | Access page.

  3. Enable the checkbox labeled “Disable the filtering of commands and project methods in the Formula editor for the Designer and the Administrator”.

During the development phase of the database this setting can be used to freely test all the formulas, reports, and so on.

During database operation this setting can be used to set up secure solutions that allow access to commands and methods on a temporary basis. For example, you might change the user (via the CHANGE CURRENT USER command) before calling a dialog box or starting a printing process that requires full access to the commands, then return to the original user when the specific operation is completed.

Note: If full access has been enabled using the “Always allow all commands and project methods in the Formula Editor” option (Application | Compatibility page) this new option will have no effect.
