Tech Tip: Setting form access
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 2003 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: July 28, 2006

Form access can be restricted for groups of users by setting Access and Owner privileges. A single group can be assigned for each privilege using the Access and Owner drop-down lists.

The Access drop-down list controls which group can use the form in the User environment or in custom applications. If a user that is not in this group attempts to use the form, 4th Dimension displays a message saying that the user’s password does not allow him or her to use the form.

The Owner drop-down list controls which group can edit the form in the Design environment. If a user who is not in this group attempts to edit the form in the Design environment, 4th Dimension displays a message saying that the user does not have the access privileges needed to edit the form.

Users who are assigned to both groups can use the form in both the User and Design environments and in custom applications.

To set access privileges for a form:
1. In Design mode, open the form in the Form editor.
2. Display the form properties in the Property List.
3. Use the Access and Owner drop-down lists to make the desired access privilege assignments.
The names of existing groups are displayed in each drop-down list.
