Current selections of records are held in the data cache portion of the memory used by 4D or 4D Server. If there is not enough space left in the data cache to hold a selection, part of it will be paged to disk in the form of a temporary ".SEL" file. 4D resorts to using this virtual memory scheme when necessary.
