Tech Tip: The "Convert case" command
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: | PLATFORM:
Published On: September 17, 1999

Scrolling through the list of commands visible in the 4D method editor, you may have noticed the "Convert case" command and wondered what it does. Would this be a handy way to convert strings from lower-case to upper-case or vice-versa?

Actually, the function of this command is not what you might have guessed from its name. It is used in dealing with foreign languages. Primarily it is used with the Japanese language to convert text from hiragana or katakana to kanji characters, or to from kanji to hiragana or katakana.

You need to have the Japanese language kit installed in your operating system to make use of this capability. The language kit is supplied by your operating system vendor: either Microsoft or Apple.
