Tech Tip: Pointer Symbols
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: | PLATFORM:
Published On: November 12, 1999

In 4D v3.x, the pointer sign is » (Command-Option-|) on Mac OS, or >> on Mac OS and Windows. With 4D v6/v6.5 and 4D Server v6/v6.5, the pointer sign is -> (a minus sign followed by the greater than sign) on both Mac OS and Windows.

From 4D v6 onwards, the symbols >> and << represent the bit shift bitwise operators. For all current existing databases, the pointer sign will transparently appear with its new symbol because the pointer sign is saved tokenized, not in its text form. However, if you use the pointer sign within an EXECUTE statement, you will have to change it.
