Tech Tip: What picture formats have native support in 4D v11 SQL?
PRODUCT: 4D SQL | VERSION: 11 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: July 30, 2008

Picture (PICT) was the only image format supported natively in 4D 2004. Installing QuickTime was required to be able to view other formats.

But 4D v11 SQL has native support for several picture formats: BMP, EMF (Windows only), GIF, JPEG, PICT, PDF (Mac only), PNG, SVG, and TIFF. Pictures with these formats can be stored in the 4D database or pasted directly into forms (design mode), fields and variables (user mode) without the aid of QuickTime.

To get the full list of native formats supported on your particular platform, the PICTURE CODEC LIST command can be used. For more information, see the 4D v11 SQL Language Reference at https://www.4d.com/support/documentation.html.

Note: no changes have been made to the Picture Library. The Picture Library functions as in previous versions of 4D. More specifically, pictures in the picture library are converted to bitmaps.
