Since the introduction of 4D v11 SQL and prior to 4D v11 SQL 11.3, the primary way to exchange data between two 4D databases was through SQL Pass-through (via the ODBC driver) or through dedicated Web Services. Both are valid solutions, but with some limitations. ODBC presents some overhead. Using Web Services requires significant development effort. 4D v11 SQL Release 3 (11.3) expands the SQL Pass-through feature to include a native communications channel between 4D Servers and 4D Professional applications. No ODBC driver is necessary. This provides greater flexibility and a huge boost in communications speed.
