Tech Tip: What is the "Catalog.xml" file?
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 11.3 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: December 18, 2008

When converting existing pre-4D v11 SQL databases to 4D v11 SQL Release 3 a new catalog file named "Catalog.xml" is created. The file "Catalog.xml" is next to the converted database structure file and it contains the structure definition of the database: all objects which can be created with the "Structure Editor" including tables, fields, and relations. It also contains information about the UUID for every single object.

The file is created only during the conversion of a database to 4D v11 SQL Release 3 in general. It can be created manually by exporting the structure into xml format and renaming it to "Catalog.xml". You can find more information in Technical note 08-06, XML Structure Import/Export in 4D v11 SQL This file is needed when you want to do multiple conversions to your structure and keep the datafile; for information on that see the tech tip "Converting to version 11 more than once".
