Tech Tip: The power of Style Sheets in your application development
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 11.4 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: September 3, 2009

When designing or updating a 4D v11 SQL database make sure you include Style Sheets in your planning stage. To create or edit a form (screen or printing) and not apply style sheets to all the objects that require text is a quick way to an inconsistent and inefficient interface. Currently, 4D v11 SQL allows you to create Style Sheets for Mac OS X, Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000. You can set the Font, Size and Style of the text in the Style Sheet. By creating Style Sheets for all your text you will:

  1. Provide your Users with a consistent interface

  2. Implement cross-platform interfaces using the same forms

  3. Be able to change text in your application by simply modifying a Style Sheet

  4. Be able to experiment with different fonts, sizes and styles without wasting time

  5. Keep an inventory of the fonts used in your application
A useful tip is to name all your Style Sheets with the size of the font so you can easily select the style you need.
