The Web Area is a powerful tool that allows you to view local or remote HTML pages all conveniently within the confines of your 4D Solution. There have been a slew of Web Area-related Technical Notes that have highlighted how to do web mashups, how to extend the area as a 4D form, and how to inject JavaScript into live web pages. This Technical Note refines the last aforementioned example by showing how to control Quicktime and YouTube videos via the Web Area’s JavaScript injection functions. Thankfully, both QuickTime and YouTube have opened their JavaScript APIs to the public, which makes this endeavor possible. This Technical Note covers the challenges, pitfalls, and “aha’s” when trying to execute this solution.
