Tech Tip: How to distinguish indexes with the same internal type
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 11.6 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: April 16, 2010

Information about internal index types can be obtained from the System tables in 4D. Index types for both b-tree and composite indexes are 1, while cluster and keyword indexes both have index type 3. This information can be confusing for users who want to find out what index type is associated with a field. One way to distinguish these indexes is to name them. Indexes can be named either manually through the Index list window (in the structure editor) or programmatically with the CREATE INDEX command.
