The ability to access an external database has been available in 4D technology for quite some time. These types of database accesses give application developers ways to store and retrieve data in a more compartmentalized fashion. In some applications, this is an ideal method in maintaining the stability and managing different sets of data of the same type. However, the means to access and create an external database continues to evolve. A few aspects of accessing external databases and its evolution in the next version of 4D are discussed in this session material.
