Tech Note: Running 4D Server as a Mac OS X "Faux" Service

This Technical Note discusses running 4D Server as a “faux”, or simulated, service under Mac OS X. Due to current limitations within the Mac OS X system, 4D Server cannot be “Registered as a Service” as it can be under Windows operating systems. This Technical Note will explain the advantages and limitations of establishing 4D Server as a “faux” service on Mac OS X and the steps necessary to accomplish the task.

HEY, there is a solution to the clean shutdown and this now works!

During the development of this Tech Note it was noted and tested that the Mac Finder issues Shutdown commands to applications in alphabetical order. After the release of the TN users found that this did not always work.

A solution has been found and is documented in the new Addendum to this TN. Read and enjoy!
