Tech Tip: Benefits of running a Repair versus a Verification

One great reason for doing a repair versus a verify is because a compaction of the data file is automatically carried out during the repair process.

However, if you suspect that there may be damage or corruption in your datafile, it would certainly be better to run a repair rather than a verification.

Running a repair will create a new datafile and preserve a copy of the current datafile; the benefit of this is that sometimes this process of creating a new datafile can weed out issues that were hidden under the rug sorta speak, and can thus be fixed by another repair.

In some situations it may be necessary to run a repair multiple times to reach 0 errors and 0 warnings. It is always important to pay attention to the number of errors and warnings reported after doing a repair to make sure that this number is decreasing with each subsequent repair until the errors and warnings reach 0.
