Tech Tip: Downgrading a 4D Data File
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 13.2 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: March 13, 2013

Since 4D v11 SQL there is a preference/setting that allows an older structure (e.g. a v12 structure) to open a newer data file (e.g a v13 data file). This setting is under the "Database" theme, labeled as "Allow opening of vXX data files", where "XX" is the next newest version of 4D. You can, for example, set it to "Ask" and 4D will warn you that the data file is from a newer version of 4D when you open it.

If you wish to permanently clear the version flag for the newer data file, repair it with the MSC in the older version. For example given a v12 structure file and a v13 data file, perform a repair of the v13 data file using 4D v12.

The repaired data file will no longer be flagged as coming from a newer version.
