Tech Tip: Quickly Highlighting in the Method Editor
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 20 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: August 29, 2023

Strings in the Method Editor can be quickly highlighted using mouse clicks. To highlight a string a double click on a word can be performed to quickly highlight the word or a triple click on a line can be performed to highlight the line. With a double click, it won't highlight strings that contain some other special characters that 4D commonly uses to split names and objects such as spaces and semicolons.

Examples:

Double Clicking a Word:

Double clicking the word "DATABASE" only quick highlights the word "DATABASE" and double clicking the word "local" only quick highlights the word "local" as shown.

Triple Clicking a Line:

Triple Clicking anywhere on a line quickly highlights the entire line.

For other specific highlights, the mouse can be clicked down and dragged from one position to another, or after placing the cursor at one position, the shift button can be held down when clicking on the second position.

These functions can be helpful in copying and pasting commands, 4D constants and other objects when writing in the 4D Method Editor.
