Tech Tip: Turning off the SQL Server does not close the SQL Port
PRODUCT: 4D Server | VERSION: 13.5 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: March 16, 2015

There is a configuration setting within 4D Server to Start the SQL Server when the database starts. There are also menu options to toggle the running state of the SQL Engine; for example, to Start the SQL Server or Stop the SQL Server.

It is important to understand that this running state of the SQL Server only affects the external access to 4D Server's SQL Engine and that this setting does not close the actual port nor does it affect the internal availability or use of SQL Engine from within the 4D environment.

The 4D Server's SQL Engine is an integral part of the 4D Server architecture and is always available to 4D Clients that are connected via 4D Remote; this is why turning off external access does not close the port (port 19812 by default).
