Tech Tip: Adjusting the name of pinned shortcuts on Windows 10

When you pin a shortcut to the taskbar on Windows 10 it will use the name of the program. However, this may not be very descriptive if you are pinning multiple versions of the same product to the start menu:


To adjust the name displayed for the shortcut, navigate to the following folder to see the underlying shortcuts that are pinned to the Quick Launch bar:

%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar


The folder contents may look like this:


Change the names of the shortcuts to be more descriptive::


After changing the names, restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

After restarting, the shortcuts will have the new names:
