If you have a folder that contains 4D files (E.G. .4DB, .4DD, etc), the folder can actually be renamed with the .4dbase extension suffix which will convert the folder into a package. The main advantage for using packages over folders is that packages can be double clicked to launch or dragged into a 4D shortcut to launch which can be useful to quickly accessing the database and saves a few additional clicks.

Likewise, the .4dbase extension can also removed to convert the package back to a normal folder. Otherwise, we recommend keeping the .4dbase extension as it provides the benefits of the package while retaining the normal features of a folder.
