Historically, users must rely on a web rendering engine with a PDF extension in a Web Area to display PDFs in 4D. This technical note will demonstrate how to display a PDF document inside of 4D without this dependence. The setup would allow users to read PDF documents on any workstation without having to preconfigure any extensions. The implementation uses a tool from an open-source project called “Xpdf” to generate PNG files from a PDF file. The PNG image files are then used as image sources in the HTML that is rendered by a Web Area. The sample application with this technical note is component-ready and can be integrated in a host 4D application. The application should be opened with v18 R4 or newer.
