Tech Tip: Managing Remote Datastore Local IDs
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 19 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: June 6, 2022

The Open datastore command, allows one 4D database to access the datastore of another 4D database. In the command, the second parameter is a text value that is used as the Local ID. This parameter is a local identifier for the session between the calling 4D database and the remote datastore. Sessions will last for a minimum of 60 minutes.

If another Remote Datastore command is called on the same database, but with a new Local ID, a new session will be created and an additional client license will be used. As such, it is important to properly use a consistent Local ID for each remote datastore. There may be some scenarios in which multiple sessions are needed, such as having one session tied to one user and another session for another user.
