Tech Tip: Multiline Behavior in Text Input Boxes Bound to Table Fields
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 19 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: November 14, 2022

In Binary mode, input boxes can be bound to either a field in a table or just a variable. When an input box is specifically bound to a field in a table, its multiline behavior varies depending on whether it is connected to an alpha or text field. Input boxes bound to an alpha field cannot accept carriage returns (entered through the keyboard)*, but those bound to a text field can.

When it comes to Project mode, the only option available for text input boxes is of type “input”. These form objects can take in the multiline option regardless of field type or if they are bound to a table field.

*This behavior happens regardless of whether the multiline option is set to automatic or true.
