Tech Tip: MacOS upgrades may change license folder permissions
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 19 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: January 30, 2023

When performing MacOS upgrades to the next named release (E.G. Mojave -> Catalina, Catalina -> Big Sur, Big Sur -> Monterey, etc.) there can potentially be many permission changes to existing folders which includes 4D's licenses folder. This inherently may cause an error when trying to activate a new license.

If you notice that a license fails to activate due to a folder attribute or permissions error, try the following steps:

1. Exit out of any instances of 4D
2. Back up the .license4D files to a temporary folder
3. Delete the entire Licenses folder located under /Users/{user}/Library/Application Support/4D/Licenses
4. Open 4D. This will create a fresh Licenses folder with the correct permissions.
5. Navigate to Help > License manager
6. Instant activate the license
7. Once the license is activated, move any of the backed up licenses files back to its original directory
