Tech Tip: Things to check before migrating database to new OS

Before deciding to migrate a database from Windows to Mac or vice versa, be sure to check the following:

  • Database functionality is tested on the new OS prior to migrating.

  • 4D licenses are available for the OS that will be migrated to.

  • Enough hard disk space is avalable for the database.

  • Ports 19812, 19813, and 19814 are open if users are connected via WAN.


    • It is highly recommended to have a copy of the database tested on the new OS before fully committing on the new OS. Things like file paths or PDF printer names will vary depending on OS so it is best to run through common use cases to ensure behaviors on both system remain consistent.
