Tech Tip: Error: "4D" can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 20 | PLATFORM: Mac
Published On: November 6, 2023

After installing a new build of 4D and attempting to open it, you may come across the following error message on Mac:

First, check that your MacOS security settings are set to allow applications from both the App Store and identified developers. To check this, open your System Settings > click on Privacy and Security (on the left-hand side) > scroll down to the "Security" section. Make sure that the "App Store and identified developers" option is enabled.

If you still get the error message even with the setting above, there is a way to bypass the error and access 4D. Please note to only do this if you are absolutely sure the application is downloaded from one of the following 4D website pages:

Instead of double-clicking on the application icon as you normally would, right-click on the icon to open the context menu and select "Open". The window below should pop up.

Click on the first option, “Open”, and 4D should open with no problem. If you close this application and open it a subsequent time, the error message should not pop up again.

As a courtesy, please contact 4D Tech Support to report this notarization issue, so that a fix can be provided.
