Two-Factor Authentication has become an important security option for increasing the protection of passwords by requiring a second device or key. TOTP, or Time-based One-Time Password (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-based_one-time_password), is used as additional protection. It is a password that changes every 30 seconds, based on a shared secret. Since the password is only valid for a short period, password logging will not work; the password expires before an attacker can use it. These passwords are provided through a hardware device or often a smartphone app, such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator. Many password applications also allow handling one-time passwords.
