To make things easier for developers, 4D provides various ways to install/activate licenses for the 4D products. All of this can be done through the License Manager under the 4D applications Help menus.

Another feature of the License Manager is the Refresh button. This button provides multiple functions that can reduce the number of times the activation process needs to be performed also allowing the seed count to be maintained.

The first typical usage is to generate the Feature Release (R-Release) version of the license if the LTS version was activated or vice-versa. The Feature Release versions of 4D are only available to Partner licenses and Licenses under the Maintenance Program, if the license falls under one of these two categories a Feature Release version of the license is generated specifically for use with the Feature Releases, while a standard version of the license is needed to use the LTS versions.
If a license has been activated for one version, the refresh button can be used on the other version to generate the license for the other version so that the entire activation process of logging in, and entering the product number does not have to be repeated.

The second typical usage of the refresh feature is to update the installed licenses. If a license that has been installed has something updated such as adding on an expansion or extending the maintenance, the refresh button can be used to update the installed license to apply the changes. This will also remove the entire activation process of an expansion or the need to delete and reactivate the license to apply any direct changes to the license.

The refresh feature should be the first thing attempted if a license has been updated or to apply the license to the other version (LTS to Feature Release or Feature Release to LTS). This can reduce the number of time the activation process needs to be performed. If the refresh feature does not work, a standard activation process may be needed instead.
