Tech Tip: 4D Installer Path
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 20 | PLATFORM: Win
Published On: January 6, 2025

The 4D installer on Windows will provide a default path in the Program Files directory based on the Version number of 4D being installed. If this full path name is modified, the OS will remember the full path name and resuggest it the next time the 4D Installer of the similar major version is ran.

When multiple versions of the same major version are being installed for some reason, such as installing various nightly builds or installing multiple copies at different locations for different use cases, make sure that the full path name is correct to reduce confusion.

For example, if a nightly build was installed, the build number could be added to the directory:
C:\Program Files\4D\4D 20.5 Build 100000.

If the installer for the next nightly build is downloaded and run, the path may suggest the previously used path due to the similar major build numbers of "C:\Program Files\4D\4D 20.5 Build 100000" again.
If so, make sure to update the path or it will overwrite the previous install and the directly may not properly describe the install.
