A feature of Windows is the ability to run multiple instances of an application. This feature expands to the 4D applications. In some cases, it can be useful to quickly start an additional instance of 4D. For example, if the application is not pinned to a quickly accessible area and a full restart is needed for a test or opening up a second database.

An additional instace of 4D can be started up by holding down the Shift Key and clicking on the application's icon in the taskbar. Alternativly, an instance can also be opened with only the mouse by contextually clicking the icon and then selecting the application:



This can save some time such as needing to minimize windows to view the desktop, or navigating through the Start menu.
